The article seems somewhat biased, picking and choosing sources mostly from the bear side. The article cites the extreme attention-getting forecasts of Morgan Stanley's Jonas without also citing analysts who have provided alternative, less bearish views. I'm interested in the topic and would have welcomed a deep but fair dive.

The producers of the Manheim index themselves produced a long report on the industry in (Used Car Market Report 2017_, but I don't see their more calming contextual cited - such as subprime auto loans being a lower % of total loans than 2004, or that household financial obligation ratios are at 30 year lows (partly due to low interest rates).

Americans have long dealt with underwater car loans, and I am concerned that terms have been pushed as far as they are likely to move, borrowing from future demand. But this article appears to have been written from a short-seller's perspective, lacking in nuance or counter-evidence.
